BBC One HD to increase the range of HD programming

Brits loving high-definition lifestyle have got one more reason to smile as the BBC is all set to launch its highly-anticipated BBC One HD channel.

The BBC One HD channel will be aired alongside the BBC HD. The first program to be aired on the simulcast channel will be The One Show.

The high-definition channel will be made available on Freesat channel 109, Freeview channel 54, Virgin media channel 187 and Sky channel 169. The new channel will make the most of the high-definition BBC One programs.

WPP Posts its Quarterly Growth Rate

On Friday, the advertising and communications Company WPP posted its quarterly growth rate, giving a major boost to the whole sector.

For the three months till the end of September, the total year-on-year UK sales were reported to be 7.4% higher at £262.3 million.

The statistics are good as compared to 0.2% growth in the first quarter and a boost of 5.1% in the first quarter.

The conventional advertising has shown good signs of recovery, with an upward trend in the first nine months of the year.

Virgin announces 100Mbps broadband service

Virgin Media has announced a broadband service offering speeds of up to 100Mbps, which is roughly 20 times faster than the current average speed of 5.2Mbps.

The 100Mbps-broadband service, which will be available in December, has been described by Prime Minister David Cameron as "exciting news".

Phil Smith, CEO of Cisco UK and Ireland, welcomed the development, saying it was great step forward. However Mr. Smith added that much more investment was required to make the country more competitive and connected.

Nielsen Releases Data for the Number of Viewers for Paywall by the Times

Though, the paywall for the online editions of Times and Sunday Times had been started three and a half month ago, News International has still not released any statistics related to the number of subscribers with the newspaper. Virgin Media’s 100Mbps to be launched this week: David Cameron hints

Virgin Media gave a new dimension to advertising by making use of cheese in its ad campaign for super-fast broadband.

Broadband provider Virgin Media unveiled a 5m by 4m advertising billboard made entirely of cheese in Covent Garden. The billboard features fast running cartoon character Speedy Gonzales, which by many remembered as being "The Fastest Mouse in all Mexico".

Speedy Gonzales is the mascot for the company’s broadband as it is super-fast, like the company’s broadband.

BBC to Pay Annual Funds for S4C, Amid Protests

People, who pay license fees, could be in for a nice surprise this winter, as BBC might pay for their fee by funding the 90% operations of S4C. The news has come after the government had decided to allow BBC to pay the annual funding for S4C by 2013.

BBC would be shelling out money amounting to £83 million to provide the funding. The media secretary Jeremy Hunt has already shot a letter to the Chairman of BBC Trust, Sir Michael Lyons, which has stated that the government would retrieve the money if the deal went through.
