Zapp i300 e-scooter available in Germany, with price tag of €6,300

Stretching its feet across the European market, British electric scooter (e-scooter) startup Zapp has claimed that its first e-scooter “i300” offers a blend of high performance, unique style and smooth personal mobility experience.

Recently launched in Germany, the Zapp i300 boasts to have a body engineered out of a super sustainable composite material that is completely recyclable when the service life of the electric two-wheeler comes to an end. On the tech side, it comes equipped with two 1.4kW swappable batteries, each weighing just around 5.4 kg or nearly 12 lb.

Swappable or removable batteries are preferred to fixed batteries as such batteries can easily be removed from the chassis and charged at home or office over any standard 110/240 V outlet. Each of the two batteries has been housed inside the frame beneath the rider’s feet. It ensures an incredibly low center of gravity for the e-scooter, which enhances stability at speed.

Praising the i300, Zapp said, “Unlike any other city bikes and scooters before, the i300 patented component arrangement results in the vehicle’s center of mass being as low as the wheel, ensuring the best handling there ever is in the vehicle of its kind.”

The electric motor of the i300 delivers maximum output of 14 kW at 6,755 rpm and 587 Nm of torque. Zapp promises a superbike-like acceleration and unique riding dynamics for the riders. According to the British manufacturer, the i300 is capable of sprint from zero to a speed of 50 km per hour sprint in just 2.35 seconds. Achieving a speed of up to 70 km/h takes 4.1 seconds. The top speed of 96 km/h or 60 mph can be achieved in 4.9 seconds. It is worth-mentioning here that the e-scooter’s top speed has been electronically governed.

The i300 is quite impressive in terms of range also. Its dual battery pack offers a range of up to 90 km or 56 miles of range per charge when used in Eco mode. As per Zapp’s claims, the range can be extended by around 20 per cent, thanks to its innovative regen braking. Its 14-inch rims come wrapped in 120/70 R14 (front) and 140/60 R14 (rear) tires.

The Zapp i300 e-scooter undoubtedly makes a strong case for the environmentally conscious commuters. However, loaded with all those eye-catching specs and features, the i300 comes with a considerable price tag of €6,300 (approximately US$7,450).
