SW London most attractive location for young professionals
London's South West postal district, particularly the SW19 Wimbledon postcode, is the most attractive location for buying property for aspiring young urbanite professionals, according to a fresh survey by Lloyds Bank.
The survey revealed that the SW postal district of London accounts for half of the twenty most popular areas in England and Wales. Yuppies or young professionals aged 25-44 also preferred areas like Fulham, Tooting, Wandsworth, Battersea and Streatham for buying a property.
The word 'yuppie' was first coined in the 1980s to describe high-salary employees below middle-age.
Eighteen of the top 20 most attractive areas of the United Kingdom were found to be in the capital city, including Kilburn, Hampstead and Paddington.
Commenting on the survey's findings, Lloyds Bank's Mortgages Director Marc Page said, "Young professionals make up a decent proportion of the capital's workforce and where they choose to live has a bearing on the local housing market."
He added that in the majority of cases, young property buyers have to pay a comparatively very big premium for a house in London's key areas. For instance, a buyer has to pay an average premium of £47,000 extra to live in London's southwest part as compared with other parts of the capital city.
