GAME adds DLC warning stickers to pre-owned games

GAME, one of the biggest video-games retailers in Britain, has reportedly added warning stickers to its pre-owned stock that was without DLC which has been introduced to the new version of the game.

The retailer took action after reports emerged that an annoyed customer sued GameStop for selling him a second hand copy of Dragon Age: Origins that was devoid of the DLC advertised on the packaging.

UK intelligence group to fill ranks via Xbox Live

The GCHQ unit of UK's intelligence services is to run an advertising campaign within Xbox Live online games with a view to attract quick-thinking 18-34-year-old people to its ranks.

The GCHQ will advertise within Xbox Live, which provides for popular games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II.

As per media report, the ad campaign will run for about six weeks on Microsoft's internet-connected Xbox Live platform that connects gamers around the globe.

Microsoft has confirmed that they had banned thousands of people from playing their Xbox games online because they had modified their consoles to play pirated games.

Online reports suggest that up to 600,000 of the 20 million Xbox Live users globally could be affected.

Speaking on the issue, Microsoft said, "All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live."

The much-awaited video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is on its way to break records, with worldwide first-day sales projected at $500 million.

As per retailer HMV's estimates Modern Warfare 2 will report over 1 million sales in UK in the very the first week, 20 per cent more than the previous record held by Grand Theft Auto 4.

Speaking on the sale estimates, HMV spokesperson Gennaro Castaldo said, "We estimate that the game will exceed 1m UK sales in its first week, which would be a new record."

Video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. announced that it would reduce its workforce by more than 16 per cent, which would result into as many as 1,500 jobs.

In addition, Electronic Arts revealed its plans to acquire Playfish Inc., the maker of the popular social networking games such as ‘Pet Society’ and ‘Restaurant City’.

Electronic Arts will buy Playfish for $275 million in cash and $25 million in equity. Electronic Arts will pay $100 million more in case Playfish hit certain financial targets.

Nokia to stop producing N-Gage games

Nokia announced Friday that it would not produce mobile video games for its N-Gage gaming platform after September 2010.

As per company’s blog post, existing N-Gage games can be bought until September 2010. However, N-Gage Arena and other community features will remain operational all through 2010.

It may be noted here that N-Gage remained struggling to allure high volume of next generation games.
