RIM releasing LTE BlackBerry PlayBook

Though BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) has yet to make any official disclosure about the release of its BlackBerry 10 OS, the company said in a Thursday announcement that it will launch its LTE BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in the coming week.

According to the information shared by RIM, the new BlackBerry PlayBook version to be released by RIM will be fairly akin to its currently-available Wi-Fi counterpart, but will boast the capability of next-generation high-speed LTE data service.

Mazda Recalls 217,500 Tributes

Close on the heels of Ford Motor’s Thursday recall of nearly 500,000 Escape and Maverick sport-utility vehicles over an issue with stuck throttles which can lead to unintended acceleration, Mazda revealed in a Friday announcement that it was recalling over 200,000 Tributes because of the same problem.

Giving the reason for the recall, Mazda said that it was due to “potential interference between the engine cover and the speed control cable” that as many as 217,500 Tributes – from model years 2001 through 2008 – equipped with V6 engines and speed control cable were being recalled.

Google: Nexus 7 shipping to customers who pre-ordered it this week

In its Thursday email to customers, Google revealed that the shipments of its eagerly-awaited new tablet – the much-raved-about ‘Nexus 7’ – have begun for customers who had placed pre-orders for the device this week.

The Google disclosure – which comes in the midst of reports that the demand for Nexus 7 is overwhelming – specified that while some versions of the company’s 7-inch tablet are in the mail, the others versions will be shipping to customers by Thursday evening.

Acer unveils bevy of Window 8 devices at Computex

The Computex 2012 trade conference in Taipei witnessed Acer unveil a bevy of devices running Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 8 operating system, with the impressive new lineup boasting top to bottom touch support as well as an evident focus on flexibility.

The Windows 8-enabled devices introduced by Acer at the conference included a couple of Aspire S7 series of ultrabooks --- a 13-inch model and an 11.6-inch model; both of which have aluminum unibody construction and full HD screens that are capable of folding back 180 degrees so as to allow the system to lie flat.
