Vodafone announced own-branded Android-based smartphones

Mobile phone operator Vodafone UK has announced it two own-branded Android-based smartphones viz. the Vodafone 945 and the Vodafone 533.

The Vodafone 945 smartphone runs Android 2.1 operating system, and comes equipped with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that offers a resolution of 480 by 272 pixels and a 5-megapixel photo snapper with a flash.

No comments have been made on the pricing or release date of the much awaited handset. Vodafone Australia's blog commented, “Pricing and availability will be announced closer to the launch date.”

However, Vodafone is expected to launch the HTC Desire HD next month. The Vodafone could also offer the handset for free at selective plans.

The British mobile giant Vodafone has been ordered to pay 2.6 billion dollars to the tax department of India by an Indian court. The tax bill is related to the deal of 11.1 billion, the company had made to buy majority stake in the Indian assets of Hutchison Telecommunications before three years.

Hutchison was one of the largest mobile operators of India. Meanwhile the British firm has urged the court to overturn the ruling of the tax department that it was liable to the tax on the purchase of the company.

BlackBerry Leaks said that the BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone would be made available on an 18 month and two-year contracts.

The 18-month contract would cost between £20 and £40 per month, while the two-year contract would cost just £15 per month.

Mobile phone operator Vodafone UK has listed the Nokia N8 green social networking smartphone under ‘coming soon’ section of its website.

Although release date and pricing for the phone has not been mentioned, yet you can register your interest.

The exclusive green social networking smartphone will come equipped with a 12-megapixel camera plus Carl Zeiss lens, 3.5 inch AMOLED touchscreen, Xenon flash and built-in 16GB of storage. The phone reportedlt runs Symbian^3 operating system.

The company will offer the phone for just £20 a month on a 24-month contract. The deal will offer 100 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of data. A top up of £10 extra a month will offer unlimited texts and 900 minutes.

Those who are ready to spend £35 a month for 24 months you can receive 1200 anytime talk minutes, 500MB of data and unlimited texts. The 18-month contract will cost £45 a month.

Vodafone and Virgin Mobile have announced separately that the HTC Desire smartphone would be updated to Android OS 2.2 within days.

Vodafone said that they were still developing and testing the update for the HTC Desire smartphone and are making efforts to get it approved by Google and the handset manufacturer HTC. However, it didn’t confirm the release date.

Commenting on the topic, Vodafone announced, “The start of the roll out is days, not weeks, away and as soon as the date is finalized we'll let you know.”

UK mobile services provider Vodafone has come up with its new the R201 mobile Wi-Fi router that allows users to wirelessly connect up to five mobile devices to the Internet.

The new router, called Mobile Wi-Fi, is a portable device capable of offering speeds of up to 7.2Mbps under normal circumstances. The device, akin to the Mi-Fi devices in the United States, weighs mere 90g.

The R201 mobile Wi-Fi hub, which uses the 3G or HSDPA networks, requires no software or wires to connect devices to the internet. It has a small screen that displays the battery life and signal strength.

Vodafone’s Mobile Wi-Fi, akin to the MiFi devices in the US, is a portable battery powered router that enables users to connect multiple devices to it through the 3G or HSDPA networks wherever available, making it easier to get devices online.

The company claims that its new device is capable of offering speeds of up to 7.2Mbps under normal circumstances.

Mobile phone operator Vodafone UK has finally started offering Apple’s most powerful smartphone, the iPhone 4, on pay-as-you-go deals.

The 16GB iPhone 4 has been priced at £480, while the 32GB model can be had for £570. Customers will be able to save £20 and £30 on the 16GB and 32GB models respectively, as compared with the SIM free versions of the smartphone.

Early adopters will receive full year of data access, capped at 250MB per month, and a full year of BT Openzone Wi-Fi, capped at 1GB per month. The offer will last until November.
