Tesco offers cheapest SIM-only mobile phone deal

Supermarket chain Tesco has launched a new tariff plan, which is considered to be the cheapest SIM-only deal available so far.

Tesco Mobile is offering unlimited texts and 100 minutes of calls for just £6 a month. After the 100 minutes, users will be charged at a flat rate of 20p a minute for calls to landlines as well as mobile phones on any network.

Access to voicemail will cost 10p a minute, while video calls on the same network will cost at 50p a minute. The deal is available online as well as over the phone.

Tesco announces pricing and tariffs for iPhone 4

Tesco has announced its pricing and tariffs for Apple's iPhone 4, which is making its UK debut on 24th of June.

Tesco is offering a 16GB pay-as-you-go iPhone 4 for £479, while the 32GB version is available for £569.

A 16GB iPhone 4 on 12-month contract costs £20 per month, while the handset costs £349. Customers can also grab the 16GB version for £19, if the go for 24-month contract at £45 per month. The 32GB version costs £99 on the same deal.

Orange, Vodafone and O2 have already announced tariffs for the iPhone 4.

Tesco faces investor revolt over executive pay at AGM next month

Supermarket giant Tesco could face an investor revolt over executive pay at its July 2nd annual meeting as up to now four corporate governance lobbying groups have urged investors to vote against company’s remuneration report.

UK corporate governance advisory firm Pensions Investment & Research Consultants (Pric) said directors’ bonuses and long-term incentive offered by Tesco were excessive.

Tesco to launch iTunes like Digital Locker service

Supermarket chain Tesco said it would introduce an iTunes like service, dubbed Digital Locker, which will allow its users to access any content they buy online on a number of devices.

Those Tesco customers who own a Clubcard will also have a Digital Locker as it is linked to company’s reward-card database. For example, if a customer purchases a CD or DVD online, the digital copy of the title will automatically get transferred to customer’s Digital Locker.

The customer can stream or download the digital title on as many as 12 registered devices, including phone or laptop.

Supermarket chains Tesco and Sainsbury's are expected to post bleak trading figures this week amid uncertain economic conditions as emergency budget is looming. A growth of just 0.8 per cent reported by Morrisons for the quarter ended May 2nd is an indication that Tesco and Sainsbury's will also report anaemic like-for-like sales growth for the most recent quarter.

David Reid Vows to Stay on as Tesco Chairman

To maintain the stability of the boardroom at Britain’s biggest retailer Tesco, David Reid has vowed to stay on as its chairman for at least another 18 months. Last week, the long-serving Chief Executive, Sir Terry Leahy said he would resign next year. It has been reported that Reid, 63, initially had decided to step down but now he has committed to stay.

Once Philip Clarke, the International Director, succeeds Leahy next March, David is tipped to remain for at least several months.
