Nokia N900 to taste MeeGo

Nokia and Intel announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that they would merge Moblin and Maemo mobile operating systems into one platform called MeeGo.
However, it was informed that Maemo on Nokia N900 is not upgradeable to MeeGo.
Nokia smartphone users get Skype

Internet phone pioneer Skype also said that its VoIP calling app was made available via Nokia's Ovi storefront.
Skype for Symbian on a Nokia Series 60 smartphone can be downloaded for free from Skype's Web site or a site such as CNET Download. com.
Skype, which was launched in 2003, allows its users to make free calls from a computer connected to the internet to other subscribers worldwide.
Orange supports Nokia-Intel founded MeeGo Linux platform

Intel said that it would team up with Orange to offer devises ranging from mobile phones to netbooks, using MeeGo.
MeeGo aims at developing such a consumer media services platform that will be used in consumer devices ranging from mobile phones to netbooks.

Symbian OS goes open source

A not-for-profit organization Symbian Foundation, which was established by Nokia along with other manufacturers, announced on Thursday that all Symbian source code was made available free under the open source licences.
Originally, Symbian was scheduled to be open sourced by the mid of the current year.
Nokia Booklet Mini 3G Laptop Now Open for Pre-Order

Apple Sues Nokia, alleges infringement

In the suit filed today in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, Apple claimed Nokia is wrongfully using 13 of its patents.
"Other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies," Bruce Sewell, Cupertino, California-based Apple's general counsel, said in a statement.

Ciena outshines Nokia Siemens to win bid for Nortel assets

Ciena corp. will pay $530 million in cash and $239 million in convertible notes to buy the Nortel’s concerned business.
Earlier in October, Ciena had offered $390 million in cash plus 10 million shares of common stock for the Nortel assets.
The final bid made by Nokia Siemens was very close to Ciena's offer.

Nokia N900 is the first handset from the company to run on new operating system called Maemo 5, which provides a desktop experience in addition to new graphics.

Nokia to stop producing N-Gage games

As per company’s blog post, existing N-Gage games can be bought until September 2010. However, N-Gage Arena and other community features will remain operational all through 2010.
It may be noted here that N-Gage remained struggling to allure high volume of next generation games.
