Centrica issues second profits warning in six months

British energy supplier Centrica on Thursday issued its second profits warning within the last six months, admitting its profits could be 10 per cent lower than market expectations this year.

Centrica also revealed that nearly 180,000 households in the UK had quit its domestic arm British Gas, while mild winter enabled its remaining customers to cut down on the heating bills.

Centrica deserves ovation

The political thrust from the White House was partially at fault. But essentially BP management was countenance with accountability for a tragedy that took away the lives of 11 people and ripped a $32.2bn gap in the firm's profit and loss account.

Centrica faces demands for price cuts as profits jumped

Energy giant Centrica faced further demands for slashing its gas prices as its British Gas business reported an increase of 98 per cent in first-half profits to £585 million.

But, Centrica said that it already had the lowest average prices following seven per cent price cut in earlier in February. It said that its British Gas business could report huge rise in profits due to an addition of 223,000 new customers, and because of high prices.

Centrica posts 7% fall in profit, to acquire stake in Trinidadian gas blocks

British energy supplier Centrica has said that its full-year earnings for 2009 slipped 7 per cent due to a sharp decline in wholesale gas and power prices. The UK-based company said it pocketed 1.86 billion pounds in adjusted operating profit, down from 2 billion pounds in the year ago period.

Revenue jumped 5 per cent to 21.96 billion pounds.

However, Centrica's British Gas unit, which cut standard natural gas prices by an average of 7 per cent earlier this month, delivered better-than-expected results.
