Internet blackout looms for thousands

According to security experts, the 0401 GMT Monday expiry of the US government’s temporary fix to keep DNS Changer malware-infected computers online, for the past eight months, will likely lead to the loss of Internet access for tens of thousands of people worldwide.

T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm Resigns, COO Jim Alling Named Interim Chief

T-Mobile USA’s German parent, telecommunications biggie Deutsche Telekom AG, revealed in a Wednesday announcement that the US wireless carrier’s CEO Philipp Humm was leaving the company after a two-year stint at the helm.

In its announcement, Deutsche Telekom also said that T-Mobile’s Chief Operating Officer Jim Alling will take over as interim CEO after Humm’s departure; and that the carrier is already looking for a successor to Humm.

Verizon to use Ciena switching technology for expanding its fiber-optic network

In a Friday announcement, bigwig US wireless provider Verizon Wireless said that it intends expanding its fiber-optic network by using the switching technology from Linthicum, Maryland-based networking equipment-maker, Ciena.

According to the Verizon announcement, the company is working towards an upgrade of its global optical network; and for that, it will be using the 5430 optical switching system manufactured by Ciena, so as to bring about a notable improvement in high-speed Internet services.

T-Mobile's new shining star: the premium HTC One S smartphone

T-Mobile USA, which currently carries neither the iPhone nor any of the hottest-selling Android handsets, will soon have a shining star --- the premium HTC smartphone, the HTC One S, which the carrier will start selling from next week.

The thin and light HTC One S smartphone is scheduled for availability at the T-Mobile stores, as well as and, from April 25, priced at $199.99 with a two-year service contract. The handset boasts the newest Android 4.0 `Ice Cream Sandwich' version, and will also support the latest version of HTC's own Sense 4.0 software.
