SK Telecom to launch 300 Mbps LTE-A network later this year

After successfully launching a 150 Mbps LTE-Advanced network in mid of last year, South Korean wireless carrier SK Telecom is now preparing to roll out a even faster 300 Mbps service in the country later this year.

SK Telecom on Monday announced that it would roll out a blazing fast 300 Mbps service that would take advantage of three LTE bands, viz. 20MHz + 10MHz + 10MHz.

Telecom industry price war could cut into operators’ profits

The ongoing price war in the U. S. telecom industry would hurt operators' revenues and cut into their profits, many analysts believe.

Earlier this month, AT&T announced that it would offer up a credit of up to $450 to customers who would switch from T-Mobile USA to its network. AT&T also announced it would also trade in their smartphones.

Sprint close to acquire T-Mobile USA: report

U. S. wireless carrier Sprint may soon announce a deal to acquire rival network provider T-Mobile USA, according to fresh media reports.

As per a new report by Reuters, Japan-based SoftBank, the majority owner of Sprint, is the `final stages' of discussions with Deutsche Telekom over the potential purchase of T-Mobile.

The report explained that SoftBank has plans to use Sprint shares to acquire T-Mobile from its German parent firm Deutsche Telekom in a deal worth around $19 billion.

Analysts doubt Apple-China Mobile deal will make dent in overall smartphone market

While Cupertino, California-based Apple Inc is confident that its recently announced deal with China Mobile will allow it to grab a bigger share of the lucrative smartphone market in the world's most populous country; many analysts doubt that the deal would make a dent in overall smartphone market.

As per an estimate, the deal will help the Cupertino firm sell anywhere between 10-40 million iPhones during next fiscal year. But, some argue that the deal will not make a big difference as the iPhone is already available in China through China Unicom and china Telecom.
