Ford’s investment in Ohio engine facility expected to boost local economy

New jobs at Ford's Lima Engine Plant will provide a major boost to the community, Vice President of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Jimmy Settles said.

Automobile giant Ford on Friday announced its plans to spend $500 million to upgrade its Ohio-based Lima engine manufacturing facility to enable to produce the new 2.7-liter 6-cylinder EcoBoost engine. The planned investment will generate nearly 300 new jobs at the plant, which already employs nearly 800 people.

Ford to invest $500M to make new engine at Ohio plant

American automobile giant Ford Motor Co on Friday announced its decision to spend $500 million to upgrade its Ohio-based engine plant to enable it to produce the new 2.7-liter six-cylinder EcoBoost engine.

The Lima Engine Plant, which currently makes 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter V6 engines for a range of Ford models including the Edge, will make the EcoBoost V6 engines that are turbocharged and make use of gasoline direct-injection to deliver the power of larger engines. The new engines will be used to the company's F-150 pickup trucks.

Bill seeks improvement in U.S. auto industry’s reporting of safety issues

Two U. S. senators on Tuesday proposed legislation that aims to improve the auto industry's reporting of safety issues by requiring automakers to disclose more information about deadly crashes.

Senators Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said the bill would require automakers to give regulators more information about fetal accidents involving their vehicles. It addition, it would force the government to make that information more readily available to the public.

United flights to offer new entertainment option

United Airlines will roll out a new entertainment system on its U. S. flights starting April this year.

The carrier has announced that passengers on its flights in the U. S. will be able to enjoy movies and television shows on their devices for free. The new entertainment system will enable passengers to stream content straight to their devices like laptops, tablets and smartphones, and watch them during their journey.
