Diabetic Patients to Add Coffee to their Diet

Coffee can alleviate the risk of type 2 diabetes, a report says.

A research was carried out by the researchers of Sydney, Australia, in which they examined 500,000 people. It was revealed that those who took three to four cups of decaffeinated coffee per day had 33% less chance of getting affected by type 2 diabetes, and the same amount of tea lessened the risk of by 20%.

The study was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Similar research was also conducted by Dr. Rob M. Van Dam, of the Harvard School of Public Health on 193,000 people in the U. S. and Europe. He analyzed 15 such related studies too. He also found that people who drank a significant amount of coffee, has 28% less risk of type 2 diabetes, than those who did not.

Coffee contains chlorogenic acid, an antioxidant that reduces the assimilation of glucose in the blood. In a cup of coffee, 59 micrograms of boron are present, which decreases the amount of insulin that is necessary to maintain the blood sugar level to normal.

However, a Swedish study brought out that coffee added with sugar can slow down the resistance level of insulin in the body, while cream and milk pose no such harm.

Many studies have found that only 35% of the people drink black coffee. Coffee can even contain 500 calories, which can cause obesity and can also increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.
