Facebook Gears Up to Welcome Its 500-Millionth User

Andrew Noyes, a Facebook spokesman, has announced that the site would have its 500 millionth user this week. Earlier in March, Facebook was reported to replace the number one position of Google in the terms of number of visitors.

“Half a billion users is quite a milestone no matter how you look at it”, said Dan Olds, who is an analyst at Gabriel Consulting Group Inc.

The social networking sites have brought a revolution in the Internet usage all over the world and the figure of 500-million users for one social networking site is definitely a great achievement in itself. This popularity has laid a much greater onus on the managers of site, as now they should look for unbreakable security of users’ accounts.

Facebook might plan huge celebrations for its 500-millionth user, however, the Company has not revealed details about that.

This is good news for the social networking site as it had witnessed a major fall in the number of new users in May and June. It had acquired 7.8 million new users in May, while in June it could have only 320,800 new users, which is a major drop.

Experts say that this fall shows that people are losing interest in social networking sites.

A recent report from the Oxygen Media Insight Group had revealed that most of the women today admit themselves to be addicted to social networking sites.

The Washington Post has reported that Facebook users are equal to the combined population of the U. S., Germany and Japan.
