TouchType launches new app to make mobile typing faster

Software developer TouchType has launched a text typing app, dubbed SwiftKey, and claimed that it would increase the typing speeds on touchscreen mobiles by as much as 50 per cent.

According to TouchType, the new app will find words when the user begins typing it, plus it will predict the way the words are used in a sentence. In addition, the software can tweak itself to recognize a users’ writing style. Commenting on the new app, TouchType CEO Jon Reynolds said, “The incredible technology underpinning our application completely changes the way mobile users interact with their smartphones.”

Chief technical officer Ben Medlock said that they analysed more than fifty billion words in as many as nine major languages to create the models that drive their prediction engine.

It took the software developer two years to make SwiftKey software, which is now available in beta version via the Android Market.

The predictive swift key software is available in English, German, Spanish, Swedish and Dutch.
