Holding the position for the 14th time in row, Toyota's Prius has been ranked the Japan's top-selling car for the month of June. The auto major sold 31,876 of the gas-electric cars, last month. This figure has surpassed the sale of Honda's fuel-efficient Fit. Fit secured second position, as it sold 15,955. The list was released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association on Tuesday.
Association Spokesman, Yukio Kogoshi said that the Demand for Toyata’s electric car remain favorite of customers wanting to buy an energy efficient hybrid vehicle.
The sale is also lifted by the tax breaks and Government subsidies which are offered for environmentally friendly cars. Toyota stated that Prius is the third generation vehicle, after its introduction in the year 1997. Prius is the best-selling hybrid in the world and a total of 1.79 million have been sold to the customers. The vehicle is so much demanded, that it is having a three-month waiting list.
Even after selling the number one vehicle to the buyers, Toyota has been in news for the recalls forced by the quality troubles. The automaker on Monday, initiated another recall for 92,000 Lexus and Crown model vehicles in Japan following some engine defect.
Earlier also, about 8.5 million vehicles, including the Prius were recalled for a number of problems from defective floor mats to braking software malfunctions.
