Risk of Infant Death Triples in Home Deliveries

A new research has revealed that the planned home births are three times more likely to cause death of infants than the hospital deliveries. These deaths can be due to breathing troubles or because of unsuccessful efforts at resuscitation; yet the overall threat of expiry, is less.

A much natural kind of setting has been made by mothers, mostly in the parts of UK, for their baby’s delivery. These involve less of the medical interventions. But these home deliveries, as said by the researchers, raise more concerns about the safety of the babies

It is because the deliveries at home are not as planned as they are in the hospitals under the medication, even though, they may seem to be at lower risk, when the labor-related difficulties are concerned. It is not preferred, as both the mothers and the infants require proper medication.

Researchers say, “Studies haven't yet given us a clear picture of how safe home births are compared with hospital births. This is partly because good-quality research has been lacking. Also, many studies have compared actual home births with actual hospital deliveries. This isn't an ideal comparison, as planned home births often become hospital deliveries if problems arise”.
