Survey Reveals: Teenage Girls are at a Higher Risk for Drugs

A survey conducted by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America revealed that teenage girls are more tempted by alcohol or drugs as compared to teenage boys.

The reason behind it is that teenage girls identify the benefits from drug and alcohol use. 70% of the teenage girls confirmed that usage of drugs is beneficial as it s it easy for them to handle problems at home.

An identical survey was conducted in the year 2008 and at that time the number was 11% less. Also, 50% of the girls revealed that drugs helped them in forgetting their troubles.

In 2009, a survey revealed that teenage boys were expected to say that drugs helped them in unwinding. They also said that parties become more enjoyable with drugs.

The survey this year found a rise of 11% in the consumption of alcohol by teenage girls. This increase was comparatively higher than what was observed in teenage boys. Also, 29% more girls used marijuana in
2009 as compared to the survey conducted in 2008. The use of marijuana in teenage boys was 15% higher.

Founding Member of Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Tom Hedrick disclosed to WebMD that there is an urgent need for the parents to know that even girls are as likely to use drugs and alcohols just like boys.
