Friday Starts With the Opening of Relay for Life in Mason County

It was not until five years ago that Susan Owens got a chance to be a part of Relay for Life.

This is so since she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

She said that at times, people think that something happening to others cannot happen to you and when actually the similar thing touches your life, you tend to realize the fact and try to get involved in it.

She had been diagnosed with the condition after she accidentally saw a lump while wearing a pajama one night.

She had to undergo two surgical procedures and chemotherapy, in order to combat the cancer and after that had to face recurrences of the condition after a few years.

At present, Owen said that she is participating in a research study at the University of Kentucky.

Her clash with the disease brought a lot of ups and downs in her life. She also said that while the procedure is going on, it tends to change a lot of things in a person.

All this while, her family and friends had been really supportive. She further adds that trusting your doctor is very important.

Owens will take part in the Mason County Relay for Life, June 11, at the Maysville-Mason County Recreation Park.
