Wikipedia entangled in porn row

Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has been facing criticism from fellow Wikipedia users for personally deleting pornographic images from digital encyclopedia’s sites.

"Wikimedia Commons" is a sister project to the Wikipedia encyclopedia. It was established to allow all the Wikimedia projects to share photographs, cartoons and other contents. But, a number of people criticized it for holding pornography.

Hundreds of images have already deleted by the administrators of the Wikimedia Commons". But, there are still some pornographic images left on the site.

Speaking on the issue, Jimmy Wales said, "Much of the cleanup is done, although there was so much hardcore pornography on commons that there's still some left in nooks and crannies.”

However, some images had to be reinstated onto the site after stiff opposition from the side of Wikimedia contributors. They were opposing the act of deleting some images that were used to illustrate articles on sexuality.

Mr. Wales has now voluntarily given up some of his site privileges such as ability to delete and edit protected content.
