A 76 year old man from Monbulk, Victoria, who sustained several broken ribs, including a collapsed lung, told paramedics he was about to leave the yard after feeding his daughter’s horses, when one of them bolted towards him and knocked him to the ground, trampling all over him.
An ambulance helicopter and paramedics were called just before 10.30 a. m.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the man had a fast heart rate and was pale and sweating, because he was having difficulty in breathing. The paramedics fearing a collapsed lung, inserted a large needle to reinflate it. Once the lung was reinflated, the man’s condition dramatically improved, and flown to the Alfred Hospital, the man continues to be in a serious though stable condition.
The man was also given some pain relief through an inhaler, then stronger pain relief through a drip in his arm.
