The Arctic ice cap has reportedly gained almost the average levels of ice again, helped by the unusual weather phenomenon, the National Snow & Ice Data Center claimed.
Figures revealed by the Met Office showed that the UK witnessed the harshest winter this year since 1979. The average temperature stood at 1.6C that was 2.1C below average.
The Danish Meteorological Institute also revealed highest growth in Arctic ice in the past sex years.
However, Mark Serreze of the U. S-based NSIDC said that a few weeks of cold weather in one part of the Arctic did not prove the end of climate change.
Speaking on the topic, he said, “What this doesn't show is any indication that global warming is over.”
Mr. Serreze further said that weather is local and short-term, while climate covers a large span of time and space.
Long-term data shows that the Arctic summer sea ice is decreasing by around 232,000 square miles per decade.
