Computer manufacturer Acer has taken the lid off a new range of laptops, in a move that could allow it to challenge HP in global sales.

Acer has come up with its new Timeline X machines, which are available in 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch screen sizes. Acer also announced that an 11-inch version will also be available eventually.

The laptops are just 1-inch in thickness and are easy to use on the go as they weigh just between 1.8Kg and 2.5Kg.

The cheapest model is equipped with an Intel Core i3 330M, while the most expensive model features an Intel Core i7 670M.

All of the announced three models have RAM of at least 3GB, while hard drive options range from 250GB to 640GB. Graphics are powered by AMD's mobile HD 5470 and HD 5650 chips.

The Timeline X range will hit the stores in May with prices starting at £600.
