On Friday, doctors said that every boy and girl should be given protection through vaccination against a rapidly rising virus, spread by oral sex. The virus has been linked with head and neck cancers.
It has been said, that cases of a specific type called oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have highly augmented, even though there has been a general decrease in the neck and head cancers in the current years.
According to the Scientists’ reports in the British Medical Journal, the development seems to be related to cancers caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
HPV preventive vaccines like Cervarix, produced by GlaxoSmithKline and Gardasil by Merck & Co. can help in avoidance of cervical cancer.
Analyst Savvas Neophytou at Panmure Gordon in London stated, "The emergence of new data such as this may increase motivation amongst national vaccination authorities worldwide to re-double efforts to vaccinate children before they become sexually active".
A lot of developed countries have initiated HPV vaccination plans for girls to try to guard them from the common sexually spread virus before they become sexually on the go.
According to a recent study growth of oropharyngeal carcinoma was related to a history more than six sexual partners, four or more lifetime oral sex partners, and, for men, early period at first sexual intercourse.
Cancers linked to HPV was also accounted in 60-80 percent of current samples of biopsy in studies conducted in US, evaluated with 40 percent in the last 10 years.
