Fixed broadband subscriptions to jump above 500m mark this year

Informa Telecoms & Media has predicted that the number of global fixed broadband subscriptions will surpass the 500-million mark in 2010.

The research indicated that the number of global fixed broadband subscriptions would jump significantly from 480 million in the last year because more companies would go for modern web services.

The research also said that particularly, China, Russia and Mexico would show strong market growth.

Speaking on the topic, Rob Gallagher from Informa Telecoms & Media said, “China, Russia, Mexico, India and Vietnam were among the countries that recorded the greatest leaps in fixed-broadband subscription numbers last year.”

By the end of September 2009, China with 91,348,000 fixed broadband subscriptions topped the list.

USA and Japan stood at second and third positions with 82,846,600 and 31,240,000 fixed broadband subscriptions respectively, while Britain got 6th ranked with a total of
18,033,300 fixed broadband subscriptions.

As per web traffic management company Akamai, the UK is providing the 26th fastest broadband service in the world.
