Henshaw comes to the rescue of Morecambe Bay trust

Sir David Henshaw has been appointed as the interim chair after Monitor intervened for a second time at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS foundation trust which was due to concerns about the overall quality of services at the trust.

Stephen Hay, Monitor's chief operating officer, said, "Sir David Henshaw is an experienced chair and it will be his job to take whatever action is necessary to fix the problems so that patient care is delivered to the standards they should be able to expect, now and in the future."

Alongwith Henshaw's this appointment, he will also the chair of Liverpool's Alder Hey children's hospital. In an attempt to make a recovery plan that is effective, a turnaround director has to be appointed by Morecambe Bay, as required by the regulator of foundation trusts.

A programme management office needs to be set up, according to Monitor, which will be lending support to the turnaround director, and for carrying out the everyday activities, appoint an interim chief operating officer.

Regular reports will have to be made by Morecambe Bay to the regulator on its progress in implementing these changes.
