While introducing the new ‘Timeline’ feature in late September, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said that the new profile will help the over 800 million users of the social network express themselves better and tell their stories more effectively, the feature has now garnered widespread criticism especially from users who are not keen on sharing their details with all and sundry.
Described as a comprehensive log of a Facebook users’ life online, Timeline was initially introduced as an optional feature, with users having the advantage of first trying it out and then adjusting to it in accordance with their needs.
However, in a recent announcement Facebook has now revealed that, in the coming weeks, all the users’ layouts will be converted to the Timeline, irrespective of whether or not the change is to the liking of the users.
The fact that a number of users are skeptical about Timeline is evident from the statistics put forth by Internet’s biggest opinion-based community SodaHead. com, which sought the views about the users on the Timeline feature.
According to the statistics, nearly 70 percent of the respondents said that they did not like Timeline; barely 20 percent said that they liked it; and the remaining 10 percent said that they did not use Facebook. In addition, only 30 percent of the users aged between 18 and 24 years, and 10 percent of the over-65 users stated their liking for Timeline --- thereby indicating that Facebook needs a rethink of its tactic, especially with Google+ just waiting to lap up the disgruntled users!
