New ‘Spire’ tool brings Siri to jailbroken iOS 5 devices

Developers Grant Paul and Ryan Petrich have come up with a new tool called `Spire,' which is capable of successfully porting the Apple iPhone 4S' Siri personal assistant to other `jailbroken' iOS 5 devices.

Revealing that Spire can help run the Siri virtual digital assistant on iOS devices other than the iPhone 4S alone without breaching any copyright laws, the developers of the new tool said that since the use of Siri necessitates an authorization by Apple, users of jailbroken iPhones can circumvent this step by inserting information from an iPhone 4S and making use of a proxy server address.

According to the Spire-related details shared by the developers of the tool, Siri is free from any copyright issues as it essentially exploits a new mechanism for obtaining the files required for running the voice assistant on a jailbroken iOS handset.

The developers further added that Spire - the Siri hack which was made possible due to Apple's release of a new, but soon pulled, build of iOS 5.0.1 - also enables the users to specify their own proxy server, instead of requiring them to direct all of their traffic via a particular proxy server.

However, users need to note that since the Siri hack requires then to "jailbreak" their devices, the warranty on their devices will be voided. Nonetheless, in the bargain, they will get the advantage of increased customization and freedom, as well as access to new features, like themes and applications, which are not approved by Apple.
