The UK Prime Minister David Cameron's recent unveiling of an interactive map of East London's technology cluster has chiefly underscored the expansion of Old Street's "silicon roundabout", with the disclosure that there are over 600 firms in the Tech City area.
It is clear that the Tech City area has witnessed tremendous growth over the last one year, given the fact that there were only about 200 tech firms based there in 2010.
Incidentally, even though the government has stated that it was acting to support the stupendous success in London's Tech City area, some businesses said that the government's attention was not desired by them.
Hailing the growth of the area, Cameron said that, a year back, the government had announced its commitment "to helping the tech cluster in East London grow." He further added that the successful growth that is now evident was chiefly a result of the fact that talented and creative entrepreneurs had decided to establish their businesses there.
Noting that some crucial actions to accelerate the growth of the Tech City area had already been taken and some other measures were also being contemplated, Cameron said: "We have already taken action such as introducing the Entrepreneurs Visa and tax breaks like the Enterprise Investment Scheme. We are also looking at new ways we can protect Intellectual Property."
