PS3 ranked second in Japan hardware sales

According to a new report, Sony’s Playstation 3 gaming console has ranked second in the overall hardware sales in the Japanese market in the most recent week.

The Japanese consumer electronics company sold 29,435 units of its Playstation 3 consoles between October 3 and October 9 in the country to come in second position in overall hardware sales, according o Media Create Co.

The console had four titles in the top 10 including, Konami Corp.’s World Soccer Winning Eleven 2012, Codemasters Inc.’s F1 2011, Tecmo Koei Corp.’s Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends, and From Software Inc.’s Dark Souls.

The company had sold 30,362 to rank third last week in Japan. It said that the PS3 hardware sales recorded a 20 percent increase while software increased 52 percent compared to a year earlier. In the US market, the company’s Playstation 3 ranked as the No. 2 best-selling game hardware in September, according to the NPD Group.

Meanwhile, Sony has suspended 93,000 accounts on its PlayStation Network and other online entertainment services after it detected a large number of unauthorized attempts on the networks.

The Tokyo had quartered company had to temporarily lock about 93,000 accounts whose IDs and passwords were successfully verified by the hackers. The company has already sent email notifications and password reset procedures to the affected users PlayStation Network, Sony Entertainment Network and Sony Online Entertainment services.
