Super-luxury sedan Maybach launched by Mercedes-Benz in India

Mercedes-Benz on its 125th anniversary decided to launch its new super-luxury model of car Maybach. German carmaker will introduce two of its top variants Maybach 62 with a price tag of Rs. 5.10 crore and Maybach 57 S at Rs. 4.85 crore.

Maybach is the combination of technological precision and intelligently conceived as per each individual's choice and requirements.

Maybach is powered by 12-cylinder engines that deliver 630 hp of power and can clock top-speed of over 250 km an hour.

Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Peter T. Honegg said that Maybach is designed by keeping in mind every small detail to meet the demand of 21st century automotive technology. It is built in the state-of-the-art manufacturing factory.

The car is designed with a new sporty look with LED daytime driving lights in the front bumper combined with striking aesthetics enhanced safety. The car has a charismatic lower body with 20-inch wheels. The car has been makeover with dual tone paint.

Further he said that India is the second largest market for luxury cars after China in Asia and this is the correct time for the company to enter the market with these luxury cars.

Company believes that India has a selected mass who can afford this personally crafted car. The car can be customised according to buyers' choices and needs and the car will be delivered within 6-9 months from the order.

Mr. Honegg, Head of Mercedes-Benz India said that Maybach has to compete with high-end luxury cars like Rolls Royce, Bentley, Bugatti and Porsche in the Indian automobile market. The company has not set its sales target in the country whereas in china, company sold 20-30 units each year.

Mr. Honegg further commented that as the company is losing its leadership position in the Indian market for two consecutive years to BMW but it does not make any difference because the company is here to sell cars rather than attaining its top position. Competition is necessary for growth and company has gained some market share last year.

As per data, 6,246 units of BMW were sold in India in 2010, while Mercedes-Benz sold 5,819 cars for the same period. With the growing Indian millionaires, the market for luxury cars in India is around 15,000 units annually.

It is forecasted that in coming 15-20 years Indian luxury market will gain a global premium league.
