Kevin Spacey to play title role in Richard III next summer
Tony and Oscar Award winner Kevin Spacey will play the title role of William Shakespeare's Richard III in summer next year.
Richard III, which will open at The Old Vic in London on 29th of June 2011, will be directed by Sam Mendes, who said that he was very delighted to work with Spacey again. Earlier, the two worked together on "American Beauty," which fetched them BAFTA and Oscars Awards.
Commenting on Spacey's potential role, Mendes said, "I am doubly thrilled that he will be leading year three of The Bridge Project. Richard III is a play I love, and a role I think Kevin is born to play."
Richard III is a part of the 3-year Bridge Project, a transatlantic production partnership among Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Old Vic and Mendes' Neal Street Prods.
Richard III is one of Shakespeare's initial plays. It tells the story of cunning king who quickly rose and died.
Tickets for Richard III will be available for purchase from January 31, 2011.
