Plusnet to move call centre from Durban to South Yorkshire

BT-owned broadband & phone provider Plusnet has decided to shut down its customer support operation site in Durban, South Africa, and to move the business to South Yorkshire in the UK.

Plusnet is moving its entire operations to the same site with an intention to improve service further. The company inherited a call center in Durban from Madasafish after BT acquired Brightview in 2007.

Announcing the decision, Plusnet said in a statement, "Whilst we're sad to say goodbye to South Africa, we feel really excited about bringing all our services back to Sheffield." The move to switch customer service operations to company's headquarters in Sheffield will generate 150 jobs in the city, with a further 100 employees moving from Durban to South Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency, has reportedly helped fund the moving to the tune of 1.8 million pounds.

Plusnet, which offers broadband and landlines to business as well as residential customers, bagged an award for its customer service at this year's Internet Service Providers' Association Awards.
