Fight against Public Smoking sees Little Resistance in Bega Valley

The increased opposition to smoking in public areas has seen the inclusion of another New South Wales Community. According to the information available, Bega Valley community has since the month of September enforced a ban on smoking in public areas like restaurants, sports grounds and playgrounds.

The Environmental Coordinator for the Shire Council, Greg O’Donnell stated that people had not shown much opposition to the new ordinance and that there were no problems faced till date.

Though, he does add that the outdoor dining group has voiced its opinion against the new law. However, he says authorities have been helpful to those facing problems and have dealt with all the concerns raised by the alfresco dining community.

Mr. O’Donnell further stated that the bans on smoking have increased in numbers, with more and more communities in New South Wales imposing a ban on public smoking. He adds that the moves are in line to the smoking ban in Queensland, which was imposed in 2006.

While talking about the situation in New South Wales, Mr. O’Donnell expressed that the ordinance was in a transition mode in the state and would hopefully be received with open arms in the time to come, all across the state.
