Using Laptops on Laps can Deteriorate Sperm Quality in Men

A recently conducted study has stated that men who use laptops on their laps are at an increased risk of a deteriorated sperm quality. The best solution provided by the authors of the study is that men should try to use their laptops by keeping them on a desk rather than on their laps.

The study was led by an urologist at the State University of New York, Yelim Sheynkin and was published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.

The study involved the evaluation of temperature of the scrotums of 29 men who participated in the study, with the help of a thermometer. It was found that men who kept the laptop on their knees, despite using a lap pad, showed an increase in the temperature of the scrotum of men.

While talking about the importance of the research, lead researcher Sheynkin stated that as billions of men were using laptops currently, the findings of the study were very important. Besides, the major problem was that majority of the men using laptops were in their reproductive age.

Sheynkin added that the scrotal temperature surpassed the presumed safe temperature within 10 to 15 minutes after the participants started using their laptops. It needs to be noted that prior research has found that the overheating of the scrotum by even a single degree can result in damaging the sperm.
