Scientists Unravel Mystery behind Type-2 Diabetes

Researchers might have been able to discover a key reason behind the development of type-2 diabetes among people. The cause of type 2 diabetes among people has been stated to be because of a hormone, which is produced in the liver.

While talking about the new discovery, Hirofumi Misu from the Kanazawa University in Japan has stated that the research was able to find more information regarding the unknown functions of the liver. He further added that liver was responsible for the development of type 2 diabetes in people because of the hormone it secreted.

The researchers while revealing the study stated that the results were of an examination known as comprehensive gene expression analysis. In which, it was found that the liver secretes higher levels of selenoprotein P (SeP) in people, who suffer from type 2 diabetes.

The study was conducted on mice and it was found that higher levels of SeP made mice a lot more resistant to insulin, whereas, a treatment that was used to block the affect of SeP was found to help in mice becoming less sensitive to insulin. However, the study was not able to establish the link between the protein and glucose homeostasis.
