Shannon Residents Enraged over Discolored Tap-water

Shannon residents have raised concern over the discoloured water in the town. They have showed severe disgruntlement towards the Horowhenua District Council, outlining that they fear that it will not clean up their discoloured water.

In addition, the rising cases of E. coli, giardia and tummy bugs have been linked with the town's dirty water.

Shannon residents have called the Horowhenua District Council to immediately undertake measures in a view to address the rising cases of giardia and tummy bugs that are witnessed to have engulfed the community.

A person recently contracted giardia after drinking boiled tap-water. Such a case has rendered residents jittery as apart from drinking, washing vegetables, or even cleaning up teeth using tap water is feared to cause the infection.

Following a government notice released last, the residents have been on boiled water. Besides, the Horowhenua council refusal to undertake steps to clean up the dirty water supply in Shannon has added fuel to the fire.

Drinking half a glass of Shannon water may not be detrimental, however, drinking two or more litres a day could render one's health in jeopardy, MidCentral District Health Board drinking water assessor Peter Wood warned.
