Breast Cancer Month: More Emphasis on Cure than Commercialization

In line with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October whose identifying feature is the pink ribbon campaign, more awareness should be raised for the disease of breast cancer and more importantly methods to prevent and treat it more effectively.

The El Camino Hospital presented their new 3T MRI a few weeks ago, a sensitive high technology machine that operates with magnetic power in order to generate high quality resolute pictures of the cancer. The 3T MRI can be used in addition o mammography in order to give a higher diagnosis security to doctors and patients.

A recent study on the 3T MRI revealed that it’s ‘breast cancer-discover-quote’ lies at a hundred percent, detecting cancer in 66 of 66 infected breasts. Compared to the older technique of mammography that detected merely 54 cancer cases, this represents a huge advancement.

Beside such advanced technological treatments, the hospital further came up with the Next Step Boutique, a store that sells products focused to assist breast cancer victims. The owner points out: "Our main focus is to provide outstanding products. We have mastectomy bras, active wear, swimwear and lingerie and beautifully fashioned head wear."

In comparison with cancer campaign-related pink ribbons on consumption articles like Fast Food or Vodka that are controversially supposed to help in the fight against breast cancer, efficient technological advancement are hailed to be way more effective by many women. They articulate their concerns that a commercialization of the disease does not help to cure it.
