A major restructuring, under which Oracle will be seen out of the operations, has been unveiled by the OpenOffice. org Project.
The principal contributor into Oracle had been OpenOffice, and although it had a very successful development record, it was as well the code base for StarOffice, by Sun.
Hereafter, OpenOffice’s development and direction will be overseen and steered by a group of developers and nation’s language project executives.
Now, the OpenOffice. org project is The Document Foundation, whereas OpenOffice. org has been temporarily christened as LibreOffice.
In the meanwhile, Oracle has been shamefully invited to be a part of OpenOffice group, if it applies to the Foundation.
Along with this, it has also been asked to donate the OpenOffice. org brand under its ownership to the group.
Till the time, a decision is heard from Oracle, the OpenOffice. org suite would be kept as the LibreOffice.
The reality that Oracle has been given the invitation to join is only intended to cut it out of action, since the firm is not one of those that would move forward and accept the proposal.
Chris DiBona, Google's open source programs Manager at Google, said that the search giant was "proud" to get support for the Foundation and to show interest in the project.
