Vetting System Could Lead to a Fall of Volunteers in Children’s Initiatives

The vetting system that has been framed in order to check the antecedents of adults who are in constant touch with children has reached another hurdle. The system that is under evaluation by the Government has been found to eventually end up having every adult on board.

The report has further stated that the rules which have been framed would have to be altered significantly. The report has also raised fears that the number of volunteers could reduce drastically if the changes are not made before the vetting system is implemented.

It has also cited fears that contact between adults and children could take a massive hit, as people would fear being accused of child abuse. The new vetting system would also undermine people from interrupting children who are misbehaving or vandalizing property.

The proposed system, which is yet to be implemented, has been officially named the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS) and was put forward by the previous Labour Government. The scheme if implemented would lead to a minimum of 9 million people involved in child care or other work with minors being cross-checked.

When announced, VBS met with vast criticism from the public stating that the system was too assertive and would also lead to parents who carpool children to school, being put under the scanner.
