The U. S. National Institutes of Health released a study announcing that scientists were able to find a cure for Malaria. The study, sponsored by Novartis AG, the leading pharmaceutical manufacturer and retailer in Switzerland, revealed that the NITD609 drug can actually fight the 2 parasites, which cause the Malaria disease. The new findings came after a long process of experimentations carried out by an international group of scientists, on mice.
The study was published in the Journal Science showing that the oral administration of NITD609, the new drug from the class of compounds known as spiroindolones, eliminated the traces of Malaria in the mice’s infected bodies. Such promising results helped in convincing the sponsor to launch human trials by the end of this year.
Malaria is considered as one of the chief killer diseases in the countries of the developing world, despite the significant decrease in the mortality rate caused by Malaria, in Africa.
Director of the Global Malaria Program at the World Health Organization (WHO), Robert Newman says that any drug, which ensures that the patient is always ahead the Malaria disease is welcomed, adding that he is not sure about the new drug, as many drugs which appeared previously were as promising as this, but then at some point, they failed to meet the expectations.
