Chart Track-GfK, Britain's tracker of games and consoles sales, has revealed that since Nintendo's Wii console went on sale about 3 years ago, it has sold over 6 million units to become the fastest selling gaming station in the history of the nation. In terms of popularity the console stands neck-to-neck with Sony's PlayStation.
By November 28, the 6 million sales milestones had been hit. The revelation has come amidst growing rumors of Wii's rapidly declining sales, which seem to have been threatened hugely by Microsoft's upcoming Project Natal.
Nintendo, on the other hand, does not seem to be all that threatened or hurt after-all, as the Wii maker proudly credits its success to the console's "inclusive, family friendly and fun nature", while stressing that the company would continue working hard to make sure that it stays "at the top of the game".
Despite the promising figures, it seems that Nintendo should really pull up its socks for the coming year, as analysts believe that the number of hardcore XBox 360 and PS3 gamers is growing, as opposed to the more casual gamers who prefer the easy Wii.
