Community and health groups have planned to suggest the political leaders for helping out the people, who cannot visit their dentist because of the high costs. At present, one from three Australians ignores the regular dental check up because of the dear treatment. To put in figures, above 7 million Australians cannot get timely dental treatment.
The Oral Health Alliance has said that the people in low- income groups have to wait for long to get a check -up done at public dental services. The Alliance said that the political parties should make sure that all the people in the country are able to receive the dental service on time and at reasonable prices.
According to Neil Hewson, President Australian Dental Association people from rural background and low income groups should be provided timely oral health.
''Probably the first bite of the cherry would be to look after health-care cardholders. If you get them under control, you might expand the coverage'', he said.
He said that better public education is required to control the basic dental problems like gum disease, erosion and scratch and oral cancer. If people are given proper education to take care of their teeth, the clinical dental treatment would be not required then.
Health experts have also said that policy makers have not given proper significance to dental health.
